Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)
- Do you make a sword cane?
- Yes, currently I am in the prototype stage with the
sword cane; watch the web site for their availability and details.
- If I have my own knob/grip/artifact will you make
me a walking cane or stick?
- Yes, often the customer will supply the grip or
artifact to be used on the stick. Please advise me by email of the item for a
price quote.
- In reference to custom sticks or canes, can you
swap the item or doorknob?
- All doorknobs and artifacts are antiques or unique,
rare items. Once these pieces are mounted on a custom stick for you, they can
not be removed and put on another stick. We must be sure that is the proper fit
because the stick can not be altered.
- Where do you find your doorknobs and coins?
- Most of the artifacts are acquired from various
private collectors I have met over the years.
- How long have you been making canes and
sticks?
- I have been a cane maker on a full time basis for
nearly twenty years.
- How do I measure for a cane? What side do I use the
cane?
- The best measurement for a functional cane is the
length from your wrist to the floor, with your arms directly by your side.
There should be a slight bend in your elbow. If the cane is being used as an
aid to mobility you would use it on the opposite side of your body. This topic
is dealt with in more detail on the functional cane page.
- Do you guarantee a proper fit?
- I will guarantee a comfortable fit on all of the
functional canes I make. If the stick does not meet your requirement regarding
length I will build you another and we will exchange them. There will be a
shipping charge of $10.00.
- What does your statement "guaranteed for a
lifetime" mean?
- I guarantee the integrity of the lumber and the
craftsmanship of the cane for as long as I am able to repair them, this
includes grips that become loose. It does not include the replacement of the
rubber tips for which there is a charge of $10.00 plus a shipping charge of
$10.00 for any stick you have had longer than one year.
- Are the grips brass and will they tarnish?
- Most of the doorknobs and functional grips are
brass and they will tarnish with time however they are sprayed with the same
type of lacquer that is used on brass band instruments which often lasts for
many years.
- What if the rubber tip wears out?
- If the rubber tip wears out you can send it back to
be repaired or go to your local hardware store and get a rubber tip to slide
over the brass tip. We also recommend this for those looking for a larger
striking area and more stability.
